Cons and Cons and Cons

Hello, peaches! I’ve missed you all. Here’s some convention talk.

ArmadilloCon 47, September 12-14

My hometown convention, ArmadilloCon has a special place in my heart, and it’s happening this weekend. This year, the organizers have gifted me four panels that are so great, I’m rolling the dice to see which one will be the most fun. They’re all on Saturday, Sept. 13.

  • Stealing the Shire: Fantasy Heists and Capers at 11:30. I mean, how can it not be fun?
  • So How About That Murderbot? at 1:00. I’m an unabashed fan of the books and the show, and if you’re not super stoked that Murderbot has been renewed for a second season, are you really living, I hope you’re okay.
  • The Agent Game: Querying and R&R FAQ at 4:00. I look forward to sharing whatever I can that might help writers who are in the trenches now.
  • Shakespeare as Fantasy Author at 9:00. This is a panel packed with Shakespeare nerds, and we are going to have a blast!

Flights of Foundry, September 26-28

What a feat this fully online conference is! I’m amazed that these hardworking geniuses can pull off such a huge, international, and affordable event. I’ve got three panels that are very dope.

Note that because it’s international, Flights of Foundry sets its schedule by numbered hours. Check their site to see when it will come up for you.

  • The NEA is dead, long live the…?!?!?!, hour 8: Well, it’s not exactly chipper, but it is v. important to talk about how we keep art happening in the face of [waves hands in the air] this.
  • When Writing Isn’t Your Day Job, hour 24: I may be moderating, but I look forward to learning some time management tips myself.
  • Writing As Your Second (or Third or …) Career, hour 27: A great opportunity to talk about coming to writing with the benefit of having pursued other careers along the way.

WorldCon Seattle recap, August 13-17

So. Much. Fun.

I reunited with friends, I met many excellent humans, I ate some incredible dumplings. (Dough Zone, we need you in Austin, stat.)

I appeared on a panel about the future of technology in education, and now I’m gifting you this candid picture my friends in the audience captured of me.

The author, paneling.

I’d like to add that I was not, in fact, chewing on a live snail as this picture might suggest. It was only a momentary outtake, but it makes me belly laugh every time I see it, so… You’re welcome!

Until next time, peaches!
