Travels and Oddments

Hello, peaches. It’s good to see you.

I’m writing today to remind the world of the existence of Dexter Palmer’s Mary Toft, or The Rabbit Queen. It’s a historical novel about a woman in 1726 who convinced the public, including many men of learning, that she had given birth to 17 rabbits. It’s also about why people – as in, all of us, choose to believe things that are not true.

A good story to read in this fraught season.

  • My story “Scrap Metal Family” is available to read at the excellent Kaleidotrope.
  • As of this week, I have a new book going on submission. It’s an adventure story about a group of traveling players forced to save the realm, and also about the value of art in a broken world. It is hilarious and touching, and I hope someday it will warm your heart.
  • My family and I went on a trip. Somebody took this picture.
